Front
Line Integrated Test System (FLITS)
A
Manportable Ruggedised PC Platform Encapsulating
a Customisable Suite of Test Instruments (pdf
Brochure)
Scenario
Todays military operations are increasingly expeditions
into areas well remote from home base, yet we need to limit
the extent of logistic resources deployed forward to support
them. As the size of the battlefield maintenance footprint
is reduced, the operational availability of equipment becomes
more dependent on the rapid diagnosis of failures at front
line. Built-In Test (BIT) provides a lot of this, but there
is still a significant ambiguity in test results, and this
leads to considerable numbers of suspect faulty equipment
items returned to base for repair when they are in fact
serviceable.
FLITS:
Frontline Integrated Test System, from EADS North America
Defense Test & Services, provides a handy supplement
to the BIT, augmenting its capability without the need for
costly expansion of the BIT design.
Based
on a ruggedised laptop PC with PCI cards (PC extension for
Test Instrumentation), FITS offers a lightweight man-portable
test facility that can be adapted to provide BIT interrogation
and added test stimulation and measurement for a wide range
of air and ground vehicle installations.
There is an extensive range of instruments available in
PCI format and alternative PCI Instrument cards can be easily
substituted for particular test applications.
The
product package includes the user friendly test programming
facility GENIE. GENIE is a graphical programming
tool that enables users with no programming or ATE expertise
to put together their own test programs.
Typical test resources included in the facility are:
- DMM
- Data
Acquisition Card (scope)
- Function
Generator
- Signal
Switching Card
- Video
Pattern Generator
- Mil
Std 1553B Bus
- Serial
Busses
- Discretes
- ARINC

These
resources together are capable of addressing in situ such
systems as:
- Communication
Systems
- Control
Boxes (Gun, Turret etc.)
- Control
Panels & Keyboards
- Displays
- Engine
Management Systems
- Internal
Interfaces
- Navaids
(Doppler, GPS etc)
